I'm always impressed when an artist's passion for music is evident before he sings a single note. When a performer gives in to the music and sings every lyric with conviction, I pay attention. I like that Kris seems to really get into every song he sings. I admire his musicianship, his nuanced vocals and his creative instincts. He knows when to sing a song straight and simple or when to color it up with his own riffs. He knows whether to belt that last note or softly croon it. Subtle details like that are the reason why Kris became the performer I looked forward to seeing every week on Idol. I was never sure what to expect from his performance, but I almost always dug it and I knew I could always count on him to sing his heart out like no one was watching. I think this guy's immensely talented and I appreciate that he doesn’t feel the need to boast about it. Of course, he doesn’t have to. The music speaks for itself.
