JIVE, thank you for letting the fans acutally hear this version before it hits the airwaves but I am having a hard time understanding why you will not let Kris Allen be who he is and wants to be. Is this person I dont even know going to tour with him and sing with him NO. That honor goes to Kris Allen Band and rightly so. You seem to missing the part that makes Kris Kirs and that is the emotion and they way he connects to the song. If you promoted Kris Allen instead of the over production staff then maybe you would see the magic his fans see. This voice that comes out of no where makes no sense. Pairing him on duet on a song that makes sense maybe with someone who makes sense but dont intentionally ruin any chances he has at a career from the get go. We believed in Live Like were Dying beause Kris did and he is the only one out there selling the songs. I cant honestly believe Kris believes in this. You took the soul of Kris out of this song just as you did Heartless in my opinion.
While I'm sure this idea first looked good on paper -- beautiful song + featured name artist + emotionally wrenching vocals = $$$$ -- the end result leaves a lot to be desired. The only thing I can compliment Pat on in this so-called "collaboration" is his beautiful lyrics. His vocal contribution? Not so much.
Even though Kris didn't write this song, his delivery is what makes this song beautiful and believable. There was a reason Pat Monahan never recorded this song himself. There was a reason he agreed to let Kris record it and put it on his album in the first place. He knew that Kris would do it justice. To borrow a popular Idol phrase, Kris made it his own. Just like Kris made Live Like We're Dying his own. Kris is the reason that song is the Top 10 hit that it is today.
This new version of The Truth is the equivalent of Kris telling a joke at a party and just when he's gtting to the good part, Pat pulls a Kanye and delivers the punch line. I mean, WTF? And how is this going to translate to album sales when THIS IS NOT THE VERSION ON THE ALBUM?
Please do not release this song as Kris's second single! If not even the most die-hard Kris fans are warming up to it, how do you expect a non-fan to like it? Kris doesn't need a featured artist to sell a song or even his albums. WHAT HE NEEDS IS A HUGE PROMOTIONAL PUSH THAT MAKES HIM VISIBLE TO THE PUBLIC EYE BOTH ON TELEVISION, PRINT AND RADIO. Kris's album became available in Japan last month but did you guys think to send him over there and promote it??? Here you have a gold mine of an artist who is 1) attractive 2) hilarious 3) talented 4) accessible and he is not being utilitized to his full potential. Kris has done his part with very little visibility, imo, now Jive and 19 both need to do theirs.
More importantly, why are you picking yet another song that Kris did not write when he has nine other songs on the album that he did write and ARE VERY RADIO FRIENDLY?? It's summer! There are going to be a lot of block parties and beach parties and pool parties and bonfires and road trips!! Before We Come Undone is the perfect choice for a second single. It's upbeat and catchy and makes you want to tap your toes, shimmy your shoulders and bop your head along all the while singing, "Make it before! Make it before!"
I love the album version of The Truth. That's the version that is resonating with fans and non-fans alike. This new one? No, just no.
